Pharaoh, Messengers and Attitude

Wednesday

I have moved on to the book of Exodus. Today, in chapter 5, I see a lot of us.

I read of the pharaoh who does not know the Lord and wonders why he should listen. I thought about that for a moment. What must it have been like for him? He was probably always given what he wanted, a child spoiled beyond belief. As pharaoh there were probably few to none that would dare contradict him. Then comes along Moses and Aaron telling him that suddenly he must listen to One greater than pharaoh himself.

Still today some people do not ‘get’ that they are not all mighty and powerful, no matter how many ‘yes men’ they have around them.  Their reward is here, and my heart is sadden for them.

.

What really got me in this chapter, was verse 21.

21And the foremen said to them, The Lord look upon you and judge, because you have made us a rotten stench to be detested by Pharaoh and his servants and have put a sword in their hand to slay us.
Exodus 5:21 (AMP)

Have you ever said that?
Okay, maybe not those exact words, but the heart of it?
Have you ever been on the receiving end?

Picture this:  You are going along, working your tail off, and someone walks up to you saying “God said to tell you this …. And here is proof it’s from the Lord …”  First you’re probably thinking “If it’s from God, why doesn’t He tell me Himself?”

Then things get harder.  One of two things usually happen:
1. Friends say “the enemy is attacking because you believe”
2. You attack the person “Why have you done this.  God will get you for it”
Again, maybe not those exact words, but same heart.

I’m not really sure where this is going, other than it caused me to think: How many times do we speak either for the Lord or pass judgment on behalf of the Lord when it is not really His point of view at all.
“May the Lord judge you for this.”
I don’t think the Lord’s judgment came out as they thought it would since Moses and Aaron were doing what He told them to do.

Just because things don’t make sense to us, does not mean God is not in it.  Our sight and knowledge is limited.

Is everyone who comes to you “with a message and a plan” truly from God?  Probably not.  Test the spirits.  Then watch God’s hand move.
